The classic Negroni offers a slightly bitter flavor and is traditionally served before a meal – however all bets are off on New Year’s Eve. Vermouth, bitter Campari and gin are shaken together and served over ice for a tart and refreshing drink. Garnish with lemon and orange slices to give the glass a festive touch.
If you prefer something a smidgin sweeter, then the God Father may be more up your alley. Amaretto blends with Scotch whiskey (or Vodka to make it a God Mother) and is served over ice to make this inviting beverage.
The Aperol Spritz is quite possibly one of the most popular and modern Italian cocktails. The concoction’s magic is derived from the perfect mix of Prosecco, which is a slightly dry, sparkling white wine and the Italian aperitif Aperol, consisting of a citrus taste and a hint of bittersweet that’s vividly orange with low alcohol content. Once the Aperol and Prosecco are mixed, the spritz is topped off with soda water and garnished with an orange slice and usually served in a tumbler over ice.
One Italian cocktail that has seen a recent resurgence in popularity is the light, crisp and sweet Bellini. The original recipe calls for peach nectar at the bottom of the champagne flute topped with Spumante Brut, which is a slightly dry, sparkling white wine. Many variations of the classic Bellini are now available such as raspberry and strawberry (sometimes referred to as a Rossini).
